    Enter Biopunk 2050
For one night, the legendary Mabuhay Gardens becomes the year 2050. Experience the disease that is gone, the material that replaced plastic, and the therapy grown overnight. Move through a future city and meet the founders making it real today.

Expect immersive demo scenes, short dispatches from 2050 on the main stage, the founders and investors building this future, and a reception to close the night. Punk roots, biotech future—in the room where the Ramones, Blondie, and the Dead Kennedys once played.

    The night:
    — Doors: step into 2050 with your retro QR code in hand
    — The floor: walk-through demo scenes from every cohort company
    — The stage: live dispatches from the future

The Queen Kept the Keys

Francesca didn’t just clean the floors; she held the line. For 35 years, she saw herself as a steward, not an owner. She kept a threshold open—literally and symbolically—for artists, musicians, and misfits. Her passing sparked the plan to protect the Mab’s cultural life instead of watching it disappear into the city’s churn.

“KEEP THE MAB ALIVE.”
Tom Watson and the late Francesca Valdez

The Vision for Mabuhay Gardens

THE VISION

Now we’re carrying that lineage forward by turning the Mab into a platform for culture, regeneration and creativity.

We are reclaiming 443 Broadway as a community-owned ecosystem. Two levels. Infinite possibilities.

BOOK THE LEGEND.

In Tagalog, Mabuhay translates to “welcome” and “long live.” The walls of this building prove it. Since the late 1970s, this space has been the crucible of San Francisco counterculture—a proving ground for punk, drag, comedy, and raw rock and roll. We didn’t just host icons and misfits; we forged them.

That pulse still drives On Broadway + The Mab today. Across two active levels, we aren’t just renting you an empty box and a PA. You’re claiming a piece of a historic stage.

“This is not a blank room. It’s a living stage.”

Whether you’re throwing a DIY show, launching a record, or building something loud—this is where it happens.

THE DIFFERENCE

  • Authentic Grit: Ground zero for San Francisco punk. We offer a legacy and atmosphere that money cannot manufacture.
  • The Cultural Epicenter: Anchored On Broadway in North Beach, sitting right at the intersection where Chinatown, Jackson Square, and Telegraph Hill collide.
  • Scale & Control: Two distinct, active levels (All-Ages and 21+) operating under one legendary roof.
  • Production Ready: Heavy-hitting, built-in sound and lighting designed for live performance, not just background noise.
  • Active Legacy: We don’t just preserve history; we welcome you to add to it.
“I remember when they said
THE MAB WAS DEAD.
They said the same thing about the city
in ’06, in ’89, and in 2020.
I’m still here.
The bricks are still here.
And now… WE’RE FINALLY GROWING SOMETHING THROUGH THE CRACKS.”
